First Trip

After getting home with the Beyond, my Husband and I made a few modifications and took a few overnight trips to test things out. Then I was ready to embark on my first long trip. I spent three weeks driving up to Indiana and Ohio and learned a few things on the way.

I got a tour of the class B factory at Coachmen.

Lesson 1. Better route planning.

On the first day of the trip I drove about 5 hours then stopped at a KOA - my first time ever at a KOA. I looked at my drive schedule for the next day and realized I had grossly miscalculated and had over a 9 hour drive ahead of me - highway - in order to get to my next destination, Middlebury, Indiana. Poor planning on my part!

Lesson 2. Better meal planning.

The great part of having your house with you where ever you go is not having to worry about where to eat. However, my ADHD executive disjunction kicked in and I had no idea what to make so I ended up eating a LOT of turkey sandwiches. A lot.

You can’t go to Middlebury without stopping at Rise ‘n Roll Bakery. I think it’s a law or something…

Lesson 3. Look for points of interest on the route.

For the first two weeks I had plans, visiting the Coachmen Factory and visiting my daughter, but the week that I worked my way back home, other than some interesting harvest host stops I just drove home. Not very interesting.

Chagrin Falls, OH

Other than that, it was a great trip! I had a tour of the Coachmen Factory, visited my daughter in Cleveland and took her with me to Chagrin Falls where we stayed at Messenger Century Farm, a Harvest Host location.

And one more lesson. I love traveling in the van.

This is the most important thing I learned. I enjoyed every minute of traveling and could have kept going. I was more than ready for the next trip.

My daughter watching the sunset at Messenger Century Farm.
